Of all the settings, Capture type is the most impactful for the type of video you will create. Each has their own unique benefits which lend to various use cases. They are in priority of the most popular Capture types.
To get started, you can set your Capture types by launching (clicking on) the Loom extension:
This action will prompt the following Recording Settings menu to appear. This is where the magic happens!
Here, you can decide what to capture in your recording:
- Screen & Cam: records your screen and camera
- Screen Only: records just your screen with no camera
- Cam Only: records only your camera
Screen & Cam
Screen & Cam allows you to record your screen along with your camera. You can choose whether you'd like to record your Full Desktop or your Current Tab.
This capture type is a great choice when you are presenting information or onboarding a client as having your camera in the recording adds a ton of personality to your video.
Here's an example of how a Screen & Cam recording looks:
Screen Only allows you to record your screen along without your camera. You can also choose whether you'd like to record your Full Desktop or your Current Tab.
This capture type is a great choice when you are capturing information quickly or you don't want the camera bubble to distract the viewer from the information in the video.
A popular use case for the Screen Only capture mode is How To videos.
Cam Only allows you to record only your camera. Your screen will not be recorded, only your camera.
It is significantly more personable to send someone a video without the context of the screen. It will keep the viewers attention on you instead of something distracting that may be on the screen.
Also, if you're making a pitch you can have an outline pulled up without there being concern that you're reading from a template.
Some ways our users are recording Cam Only videos:
